First impression matters: simplicity wins every time

When users open an app for the first time, they make instant judgements. Research shows that poor user experience is one of the main reasons people decide whether to stay or leave. A clean interface and intuitive experience builds trust and invites exploration. For EV drivers, that first impression sets the tone for the entire charging journey.

“User experience is more than just visuals – it’s about the entire journey,” says Aleks.

A seamless charging experience builds trust, so drivers feel confident everything will work smoothly. The app needs to be intuitive and responsive across many different segments – home users, company cars, and fleets – each with unique needs and expectations.

Lovis agrees that the tech behind the app has to be just as strong.

“We could design the most beautiful interface, but if it isn’t stable and scalable, users lose trust instantly,” she explains. “ Our job is to make sure everything responds quickly and communicates seamlessly with chargers, payment terminals, and other backend systems.”

When hardware meets software

Simplicity in the app relies on solid engineering behind the scenes. Lovis ensures that the connection between the chargers, backend and app is robust.

“If that connection isn’t rock-solid, even the simplest user flow can fall apart,” she says.

This applies to all use cases, from a commuter starting a charge at a workplace station to a fleet manager overseeing multiple vehicles.

While Aleks focuses on intuitive design, Lovis looks after the technology that supports it.

“Monitoring is critical,” she says. “We track everything in real-time and act quickly if something goes wrong. We can’t avoid errors entirely, but how we handle them makes all the difference.”

The priority is catching potential problems before they reach the driver.

“Understanding the system’s sensitive spots and staying ahead of issues ensures a smoother experience,” Lovis adds.

Testing and iterating: Continuous collaboration and improvement

The team is constantly testing, iterating, and refining the app to make the driver experience as intuitive and seamless as possible. Input is gathered from many different stakeholders, ensuring the product evolves to meet real user needs.

“Our focus is on removing complexity at every step,” says Lovis. “The driver should only have to think about their journey – not the tech behind it.”

Cross-team collaboration is essential to creating a seamless user journey.

Aleks highlights that “designing a great experience doesn’t happen in isolation – we work closely with Customer Support, onboarding teams, Marketing, and the tech team to make it happen.”

Design work also continues after launch, with designers staying in close contact with support to monitor features, update knowledge articles, and work with marketing so users know about new functionality.

Lovis underlines the point: “The more we collaborate, the better we can ensure everything works together – from app interfaces to backend systems to hardware.”

Final thoughts: What keeps the app running

Great user experience isn’t just about design – it also depends on solid engineering.

Aleks explains: “Good UX isn’t about features. It’s about making every interaction smooth and predictable.”

By keeping the technology stable and responsive, the experience for drivers feels effortless – which is exactly what the team is aiming for.

For Aleks and Lovis, the goal is clear: to create an effortless, smooth experience for every EV driver. Aleks points out that user experience isn’t just about the app’s design – it’s about the entire journey, from planning a charge to getting back on the road.

Lovis adds a final perspective: “The real challenge is invisible tech – making sure everything works behind the scenes so the driver can focus on the road ahead.”

At Spirii, the driver experience is always top of mind. We’ll continue to listen, improve, and innovate to make EV charging as simple, reliable, and seamless as possible.
