Product Talk: AI-powered monitoring and operations

Welcome back to Product Talks – our monthly series where we sit down with the people shaping the future of EV charging. This time, we’re looking at how Spirii’s Network Operations Centre (NOC) is enhancing operations with AI-powered predictive maintenance – in partnership with Lumina, a Danish start-up bringing advanced machine learning into the EV ecosystem. We sat down with Valdemar from Spirii’s NOC and Mikkel from Lumina** to explore how AI is transforming charger network operations - making them smarter, more efficient, and easier to scale. Rather than replacing people, AI amplifies what operators teams can do - ultimately ensuring drivers get the seamless charging experience they expect, every time.

Summary
  • Discover how Spirii uses AI to prevent charger issues before they happen.
  • Learn how predictive maintenance makes reliable charging easier to deliver at scale.
  • Rather than replacing people, AI amplifies what operator teams can do
  • Read how Spirii’s NOC and Lumina collaborate to improve efficiency and foresight.

AI at work: smarter operations, reliable charging

Proactive reliability: predicting problems before they happen

Reliability has always been central to Spirii’s operations. Drivers need charging that “just works” – and Spirii’s NOC has long ensured strong reliability across networks.

“Reliability is everything,” says Valdemar. “If a driver arrives and the charger doesn’t work, trust is broken. Our job is to stop that moment from ever happening.”

With Lumina’s AI-powered predictive maintenance models – trained on 3+ billion data logs from Spirii’s charge point management system – the NOC team can take reliability even further.

By turning raw data into actionable insights, the system predicts and prevents potential issues before they affect drivers.

Predictive maintenance in practice

With predictive monitoring, Spirii’s NOC team can detect anomalies earlier, automate common fixes, and reduce resolution times dramatically.

The system learns what ‘normal’ looks like for each charger, site, and firmware version – setting up alerts when something deviates. Subtle changes in performance or usage are flagged early, enabling preventive action before drivers notice an issue.

“It’s a big step up in efficiency” explains Valdemar. “Instead of chasing recurring cases, we can focus on higher-value work that improves the overall driver experience.”

“If a site suddenly drops in consumption, we’re alerted instantly,” he adds. “It takes care of the repetitive checks and leaves us with clearer priorities.”

Mikkel from Lumina highlights the bigger picture:

“Our models are designed to spot what humans can’t see at scale. When paired with Spirii’s operational expertise, AI becomes a tool that transforms complexity into clarity.”

Data-driven decisions

AI-powered insights, combined with Spirii’s expertise, provide clients enhanced tools for smarter planning. By analysing uptime, resolution times, and recurring fault patterns, operators can pinpoint top-performing hardware, vendors, and firmware - and take action on those insights.

This transforms operations from pure maintenance into a strategic asset – guiding decisions that build stronger, more resilient networks over time.

“AI doesn’t replace people, but it amplifies what we can do,” Valdemar emphasizes. ”It helps us to easier spot patterns and act earlier – so we can deliver the same reliability with even more efficiency.”

Mikkel adds: “The real value comes from turning billions of logs into foresight. That’s how networks evolve from reactive troubleshooting to proactive, intelligent operations.”

The future of AI in EV charging

Looking ahead, AI will play an even bigger role in charging operations. As networks expand and grow more complex, predictive insights will help Spirii and its partners stay one step ahead – reducing downtime, lowering costs, and improving the driver experience at scale.

At Spirii, we believe that AI, machine learning, and automation can significantly optimise charger operations - but in the end, everything is people-powered. It’s built on years of experience, data, and expertise. AI should never replace people; instead, it should create space for individuals and teams to bring more of their human intelligence, creativity, care, and intuition into the work.

By combining human expertise with advanced machine learning, we’re shaping charging networks that are not only intelligent and resilient, but also deeply centred around people and their needs.

Together with partners like Lumina, we’re laying the foundation for a future where people and technology work hand in hand - powered by collaboration, creativity, and trust.
